Convert images online: WebP to JPG, PNG to JPG and more

Sooner or later every computer user hits the same wall: an image downloaded from the web will not open in an older program, a form accepts only JPG, or a website refuses your PNG. This free image converter solves it in seconds. Add your files, pick JPG, PNG or WebP, and download the converted copies. Because the conversion runs inside your browser, your pictures are never uploaded to a server, which makes the tool suitable for personal photos, ID scans and confidential screenshots.

The tool reads JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG and ICO files, so you can use it as a WebP to JPG converter, a PNG to JPG converter, an AVIF to PNG converter, an SVG to PNG exporter and a GIF to JPG tool all in one place. Batches are supported: select fifty files and convert them with one click, then save them individually or as a single zip archive.

    How to convert an image

    1. Drop your pictures into the box above or click Choose images to select them from your computer or phone.
    2. Choose the format you want under Convert to: JPG for photos, PNG for graphics and transparency, WebP for websites.
    3. For JPG or WebP, adjust the quality slider. If your source has transparent areas and you pick JPG, choose the background color that will fill them.
    4. Press Convert. Each file shows the original and new size next to its thumbnail.
    5. Download single files with the arrow button, or use Download all as zip to receive everything in one archive.

    Which format should you pick?

    JPGPhotographs, email, forms, social mediaNoSmall
PNGLogos, screenshots, diagrams, textYesLarge for photos
WebPWebsites and apps that support itYesSmallest

If you are unsure, JPG is the safest choice because every phone, computer, printer and website understands it. PNG is the right pick when you need crisp edges or a transparent background, such as a logo placed over a colored slide. WebP is excellent for your own website, but some older desktop programs and a few upload forms still reject it, which is exactly why a WebP to JPG converter is one of the most searched tools on the internet.

Why does a conversion change quality or size?

JPG and WebP compress images by discarding detail you are unlikely to see. Each time you save a lossy file again, a little more detail is lost, so avoid converting the same JPG back and forth. If you have the original PNG or camera file, always convert from that. Converting a JPG to PNG will not bring back lost detail; it only wraps the existing pixels in a lossless container, and the file usually becomes much bigger.

The quality slider controls how aggressive the compression is. A value around 90 percent is a good default: files are noticeably smaller than the original, but differences are hard to spot even when zooming in. Drop to 75 or 80 percent if you need small files for email, and raise it to 95 percent for pictures with fine text or gradients.

    Common conversion questions

WebP to JPG. Many sites save pictures as WebP, and when you download them you cannot open them in older photo editors, presentation software or print shops. Converting to JPG makes them universally compatible. PNG to JPG. Screenshots saved as PNG can be huge. Converting to JPG makes them far smaller and easier to attach. JPG to PNG. Choose this when you plan to edit a picture repeatedly and want to avoid further quality loss, or when an editor requires PNG. SVG to PNG. Vector graphics are scalable, but some programs only accept bitmaps; this tool renders the SVG at its natural size so you can use it anywhere.

Transparent images deserve one extra remark. JPG cannot store transparency, so a PNG logo with a transparent background will get a solid fill when converted. The converter lets you choose that color instead of forcing black or white, which avoids the ugly dark halos that other converters sometimes produce.

    Privacy and safety

The converter does not upload, store or analyze your files. There is no account, no cookies for tracking and no hidden step. You can verify this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, watch the network tab during a conversion, and you will see no image data leaving the page. After the first visit the tool can also be installed as an app and used offline.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Drop your WebP files onto the tool, leave the output format on JPG, and press Convert. The converter decodes the WebP in your browser and saves a standard JPG you can open in any program, email or upload to any form that refuses WebP. You can convert many files at once and download them together as a zip.

How do I convert PNG to JPG without losing quality?

JPG is always a little lossy, but at a quality setting of 90 percent the difference from the PNG is invisible for photographs. For screenshots with sharp text, raise the slider to 95 percent or keep PNG. Transparent areas of a PNG become the background color you pick, white by default.

    Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding and encoding both happen inside your browser tab, using the same engine that displays web pages. There is no server involved, so private photos, scans and screenshots stay on your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded and the converter still works.

Which formats can I open and which can I create?

You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG and ICO files, as well as TIFF in browsers that support it. You can save the result as JPG, PNG or WebP. Animated GIFs and WebP files are converted using their first frame, because JPG and PNG are still image formats.

Why does my iPhone HEIC photo not open?

HEIC is a format used by Apple that most browsers cannot decode. On the iPhone go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible so new photos are taken as JPG. Photos you already have can be shared as JPG from the Photos app by choosing the Most Compatible option when sending them to yourself.

Why did the file size grow after converting?

Converting a small, heavily compressed JPG to PNG makes it larger, because PNG stores every pixel without loss. Likewise, a graphic with flat colors can be bigger as JPG than as PNG. If size matters, choose JPG or WebP for photographs and run the result through the compress image tool.

Does the converter keep the original dimensions?

Yes. Width and height are unchanged; only the file format and, for JPG and WebP, the compression level change. If you want smaller dimensions as well, use the resize image tool, or combine both steps in the compress image tool, which can limit width and height.

Is there a limit on the number of files?

There is no fixed limit. Memory on your device decides how much you can convert in one go. For very large batches, convert 20 to 50 files at a time. A warning appears for files over 50 MB, because very large images can slow down or crash a browser tab.
